ROLL BALL, INDIA & ASSAM

India has been known to contribute to the World Civilization in many ways and it has been a source of research for centuries for its contribution. In this modern world too we have seen many path breaking inventions in the field of Science, Art, Medicine, Sports etc…
When talking about Sports few of the many that was introduced by our country include Chess (Ashtapada), Polo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton etc. Here we will be reading about among the latest invention in the field of sport by the name ROLL BALL.
You might have heard Roller Soccer or Roller Basketball, this game Roll Ball is a combination of Roller Skating and Handball played with a basketball.

Played between 2 teams with 12 players in each team with 6 in playing sqad and 6 as reserve. The main objective of the game is to score maximum goals within a stipulated time. The main feature of Roll Ball is that the ball is held in single or both the hands, even when passing on to the other players, and is repeatedly bounced on the ground.  Played in a court size which varies from 28 to 40 metres (92 to 131 ft) in length and 15 to 20 metres (49 to 66 ft) in width.

World Cup:

IRBF have been organizing Roll Ball World since 2011 which was hosted by Pune, India in which Denmark was the winners and India stood Runners-Up.

Second WC held in 2013 at Kenya where India was the winners and Iran bagged the second place.

Third Edition of the Roll Ball World Cup in 2015 was hosted by India in Pune. India revenged 2013 loss by defeating Iran in the finals. In this World Cup Women’s World Cup was also introduced in which Kenya defeated India in the Finals.

2017 saw the Fourth Edition hosted by Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Where again the reigning champions India clinched the title in both Men and Women category defeating again Iran 8-7 and 6-4 respectively.

Contribution of ARBA:

Assam Roll Ball Association has been contributing to the fastest growing sports from 2013 and has been showing its prowess in all age groups. Under the fine leadership of our General Secretary Mr. Bhumidhar Barman, Roll Ball has shown substantial growth not only in Guwahati but also in other parts of North East which includes Duliajaan, Naharkatia, Nalbari, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Imphal, Dimapur, Shillong, Arunachal Pradesh, etc and growing day by day to other regions also.

In the words of the International governing body of the game, the International Roll Ball Federation (IRBF):

“It is certainly not an easy task to introduce a NEW GAME into the main-flow of the sports world. What encourages us to continue with our efforts to introduce, popularize, develop, refine, and organize the new game of ROLL BALL, is the thrill and the joy, and the involvement and the fierce competitive spirit that we saw on the faces of the children who played the trial matches and the inaugural matches.

ROLL BALL, a fast-growing sport of the century, has now spread its wings throughout the world. It has received attention from various people in the sports fraternity and applause from the public. Roll Ball has now become the heartthrob of all the youth.”
